Awhile back I joined an online group where parents come together to share the woes of raising teenagers and seek advice from ‘the village.’ The title of the group is the exact opposite of today’s post and I have often wondered if that is the reason why post after post is loaded with heavy topics and deep concerns from emotionally defeated parents. Does raising teenagers HAVE to be difficult? What if with time and training we shifted from having to be difficult, to sometimes being difficult, to being meh, to possibly ok, to maybe this could be fun, to slightly fun, and eventually to enjoyable? Think about it, how would you personally handle the bumps and bruises along the way if you actually believed parenting teenagers could be enjoyable? It’s a journey I am traveling myself. And it’s a journey I think is very much worth taking.
